Where is SBKC? The SBKC Clubhouse is in Trinity Street, Drogheda by the Boyne.
When was the Club Formed? The Club was formed in 1972
When do SBKC meet? Trips every Sunday, usually on the Boyne between Navan & Drogheda and when water levels are suitable we go to Wicklow and various other places. We also meet on Saturday and evenings in the summer months.
Can I come along for a paddle if I'm not a member? No, if you want to paddle with SBKC you must be a member, this is particularly for insurance purposes.
How do I join? Membership is open all year round if you can swim and are over twelve years of age. Just print & complete the membership form and contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org Download Membership Form Word Format / PDF Format .You can complete the form on line and mail it to email@example.com and then bring the signed original on your first trip or if you contact us we can give you a postal address.
What is the cost of membership? The membership cost at time of writing is €100 per person or €150 per family (3 people).
How should I pay the membership cost? The only method of payment accepted is our on-line payments option, you can use PayPal or any major credit cards, click on the credit card symbols on the upper left side of any page.
What is the membership term? The membership term runs for a minimum of 12 months from our Annual General Meeting to the next Annual General meeting usually Mar to Feb each year.
Can I join in mid season? Yes membership is open all year round.
Will I have to pay the full cost if I join in mid season? Yes, the membership cost is the same irrespective of when you join.
What are the benefits of membership? Weekly text alerts for all activities. Weekly trips and events. Automatic membership of the Irish Canoe Union. Discount is several outdoor retailers. Discounted courses and Trips.
What is the age profile of the club? Every age.. from juniors who tend to come out during the summer months to middle aged and senior, we paddle all year round so there's always plenty of trips to suit everyone.
Are there facilities for disabled people? Disabled people are welcome to join and are subject to the club's membership criteria including being able to swim for 20mtr in a river situation. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
How will I know what's happening? All members of SBKC can receive text alerts for all club activities.
Are there courses? Beginner courses are organised between June & Sept and club equipment is available on loan for new members SBKC promote Irish Canoe Union proficiency courses, from beginner to advanced.
Do I have to have previous experience before joining? No previous experience is not necessary, however you must be comfortable in water and able to swim at least 20mtr in a river situation.
Is there any equipment for use by new members? Yes, there are kayaks and all required equipment etc. Clothing is for summer use and is subject to availability.
