Level 5 Training in Wales Trips on The Boyne Willies Trip on the Barrow

See pics below of the Barrow trip '05.

Canadian on the Boyne at Stackallen.

The club own several Canadian canoes and purpose built trailer. These canoes and equipment were purchased during a recent revival of the Canadian canoe section which was led by Ricky Gerard.

Several members take part in the annual Liffey Descent, the day is usually undertaken as a fun day with the compulsory tea and sandwiches at the Leixlip portage, however in '98 Ronan Gregory and his paddling partner Dave achieved third position in a very competitive section beaten only by racing Canadians.

In recent times some members have also taken to whitewater specialist open canoes, see video section below.

These boats are fully fitted with air bags, rigid foam saddle and thigh straps. The preferred boat being the Mad River "Outrage" is a go anywhere boat, no longer the realm of the kayak,  surfing, side surfing and even rolling are all possible.

The Canadian section regularly undertake trips on the Boyne, Barrow, Avonmore and several trips to the UK National Whitewater Center on the Tryweryn near Bala in North Wales.

Paul Maguire (that's me) is registered with the ICU as a level 3 open canoe instructor and has ran several level 3 and level 4 courses. If you are interested in in joining a course please drop a line to info@sbkc.ie
